Gift pack - new from Lost in a Book

(+ postage of £3)
GIFT PACK contains: 1 book and 1 handknitted Basil cat
The door had always worked perfectly well, until the day that Mr Feed-Me cut a hole in it and fitted a flappy thing. Then the door stopped working and everyone started acting a bit crazy… Mr Feed-Me was on the floor using it as a window.

Mrs Feed-Me kept calling to Basil through it instead of opening the door, and Small Feed-Me tried to post Basil through it like a letter through a letter box.

Then one stormy night Basil found that he had a use for the flappy thing after all, but it wasn't really what Mr Feed-Me had in mind…

32 page full colour paperback

Get lost in a Book - author rambling on about stuff to anyone who cares to pass this way...

April at Lost in a Book

Over the weekend I've been knitting some more Basils  - what's a Basil? I hear you say (come on work with me here - you don't have to say it out loud - unless you want to that is... )

A Basil is a little knitted ginger cat - Basil, fromBasil and the Flappy Thing, in knitted form...

Here are are some I knitted earlier...

Why? Because the new ones are still flat-pack... some assembly needed, I wonder if there's a market for Basil in kit form...  And what about this rather handsome tabby - no he's not knitted, but he is also a star in a book - Outnumbered by Cats

Basil takes on knitted form... new from Lost in a Book

After getting distracted by pretty bags that I'd like to buy for my Christmas fair - I got down to some picture editing, so for those of you who've been wonder what a Basil is...

Basil met Bumble, but Bumble was less than impressed...

I predict a mess...

Yes it's messy time again - now that Outnumbered by Cats is published I'm launching into a new project!

It's another picture book, and the text is already written, so I've got a summer of artwork ahead of me...

Now it's a while since I had my paints out, so things are going to get messy, especially with my little furry helpers... Basil and the Flappy Thing narrowly escaped getting paw prints all over the wet paintings, and that was a book about cats, so I would have sort of got away with it...

Knitting a cat... how hard can it be?

So... the sheep have gone down so well at book signings, that for my next challenge I'm going to knit Basil from Basil and the Flappy Thing...

I've got the wool, the knitting needles are raring to go, so what's missing? Well a pattern would be nice, and once I've knitted the first one, I'll have a pattern for any future Basils, but for now, I'm doing what I do best... winging it!

I'll be posting the results as Basil emerges in wool - that is if I can keep my cats away from the wool long enough to knit it... nothing like a bit of pressure to get a project started!

Cat flaps... what does your cat think?

Have you ever thought about the cat flap from your cat's point of view?

On first viewing they must think we've gone completely mad - making a hole in a perfectly good door, and then flapping it and calling through it, before inevitably giving in and opening the big door...

But what happens when your cat realises the full implications of this new addition to their freedom...? Not only can they come and go as they please, but they can also bring in all sorts of wildlife that they might have been collecting along the way. The cat flap may not have made my life any easier, but it has provided the inspiration for a book: Basil and the Flappy Thing

You could win a copy Basil and the Flappy Thing by sharing your thoughts on what Basil, or your cat might be saying to the idea of being called through a flappy thing in the door.

Win a book - caption competition

How to get your cat to use the cat flap... when they'd really rather use the big door.

For a chance to win a copy of Basil and the Flappy Thing:

Pop over to Lost in a Book's facebook page and write in  'comments'  what you think your cat would say to you as you hold the cat flap open and call them in. Then click share.

If you haven't got a cat, or a cat flap, then imagine what you think Basil might be saying to Mr Feed-Me...

I'll post the most entertaining comments on my blog and website, and the best one wins a signed copy of Basil and the Flappy Thing

I will be judging the comments and my decision is final.
The competition closes on Friday 7th March 2014 at 9pm GMT
